Nico Müller: Looking forward to DTM 2019

CONTRACT EXTENSION Audi will tackle the 2019 DTM in the same constellation as this year. Nico Müller is looking forward to the new turbo cars. In addition, he continues to be a Formula E test driver. For Nico Müller, 2019 will be the sixth DTM season with Audi - but a special one. The new Class One regulations herald the era of the turbo cars. These are stronger, faster and more demanding. For this reason, Audi Head of Sport Dieter Gass is sticking to the existing squad.

Dieter Gass: "The first tests have confirmed that the driver is even more important at the wheel of the new Class One race cars. That's why Audi is filling its six cockpits with drivers who already have DTM experience and can cope with the even greater demands. All of them have the potential to fight for the title. Apart from that, they again presented themselves as extremely good team players last season."

Spectacular for drivers and spectators
The latter certainly applies to Nico Müller. At the second-last DTM event in Spielberg, he gave way to René Rast, who is still competing for the title, and thus settled for second place. Nothing other than a contract extension with the 26-year-old from Berne was therefore to be hoped for and expected.

Nico Müller has been an Audi factory driver since 2014. As a DTM and GT3 driver as well as Formula E test driver, the man from Berne has several interesting tasks.

Together with Robin Frijns (NL), Müller will continue to drive for Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. Loïc Duval (F) and Mike Rockenfeller (D) from Wahlthurgau will remain with Phoenix, runner-up René Rast (D) and Jamie Green (GB) with Rosberg.

Unlike in previous years, Müller was allowed behind the wheel of the RS5 test vehicle for one day during each of the two test weeks. So he already has a clear impression of what to expect from the new Class One cars.

Nico Müller: "This is going to be wicked cool! These cars are extremely fun. They are spectacular from the outside and also for us drivers. We're faster with them than ever before."

On December 16, Nico Müller tested the Audi e-tron FE05 for a day in Saudi Arabia. The next test is already in mid-January following the second Formula E race in Marrakech.

24 Hours Nürburgring or Swiss E-Prix in Bern?
In addition, Müller will continue to be used as a test and reserve driver for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler in Formula E. He completed the first day of testing last Sunday following the season opener in Saudi Arabia.

Still undecided, however, is Müller's GT program, which in 2018 included the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and Spa. Since the Swiss Formula E race in his home canton of Bern overlaps with the Nürburgring marathon in 2019, he - or his employer - has to set priorities.
