After the season opener at the end of February with two night races in Diriyah, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to Europe this weekend.

Due to the limited travel options due to the pandemic, the FIA and Formula E have decided to hold two rounds in the Eternal City as well.

More overtaking opportunities
The circuit was redesigned for Formula E's third and fourth appearances in Rome. It now measures 3385 meters instead of just 2860, making it the second longest in Formula 1 history after Beijing in the premiere year of 2014.

The circuit still runs through the middle of the World Expo district (Esposizione Universale di Roma, or EUR for short) and along the spectacular La Nuvola convention center. Compared to the 2019 track layout, four 90-degree corners and a chicane have been added.

Audi factory driver Lucas di Grassi was involved in the track layout in an advisory capacity. The Brazilian promises TV viewers two exciting races.

Lucas di Grassi: "The new layout is fantastic. It has longer and faster straights and offers more overtaking opportunities. I'm sure the fans will love it."

At Hockenheim, Nico Müller in the Audi R8 LMS was only able to attend one of the two DTM test days.

Motivated Nico Müller
The three Swiss drivers involved in the 2021 Formula E World Championship had varying degrees of luck in Saudi Arabia. After finishing second in Race 1, Edoardo Mortara (Venturi-Mercedes) was unable to start the second race due to a training accident. The Geneva native is all the hotter for the Rome E-Prix.

On the other hand, Nico Müller scored his first points ever at the start of his second season with Dragon Penske. The driver from Berne wants to confirm this clear upward trend in Rome.

The driver from Berne traveled to Rome directly from the first DTM tests with the Audi R8 LMS from Team Rosberg. He therefore had to skip the second day of testing at Hockenheim but left the venue with the fastest practice time from the afternoon.

In an interview with MySports in Swiss German, Nico Müller looks back on the season opener and what he expects from Rome.

Re-start for Sébastien Buemi
Only Sébastien Buemi came away empty-handed at the wheel of his Nissan Ariya. Naturally, the Vaudois wants to rectify this shortcoming.

Sébastien Buemi: "Things were unfortunate in Diriyah. But I was happy with my own pace and the efficiency of the Nissan. At the last race in Rome, I finished in fifth place. I don't see why I shouldn't achieve that result again or even improve on it on the changed circuit."

Live on several German-language TV stations
In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, SAT.1 will broadcast live from Rome. All free practice sessions and both qualifying sessions will already be shown live on ran.de.

The broadcast of both races starts on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday already at 12:30 p.m. In Switzerland, Formula 1 can also be seen with Swiss commentators at the same broadcast times on MySports One. In addition, the pay-TV channel Eurosport 2 will also be reporting live from Formula E.
