The highlights of Race 1 in Spa show Nico Müller's sensational overtaking maneuver in Eau-Rouge and his superior drive to victory.
As second fastest behind his Abt-Audi teammate Robin Frijns and thus a place on the front row of the grid, Nico Müller created an almost ideal starting position in qualifying on the famous Ardennes circuit. Behind him, champion René Rast lurked in third place.
Up and away
With his first sensational maneuver in the infamous Eau-Rouge dip, Müller not only fended off Rast's first attack on the starting lap. Last year's runner-up from Blumenstein also kept up with the Dutchman. The latter was soon due.
After another perfect mandatory pit stop, Müller literally flew away from his opponents. The Audi works driver gradually extended his lead and crossed the finish line after just under 58 minutes with a lead of almost 20 seconds.

British driver Jamie Green and Frenchman Loïc Duval, who lives in Switzerland, took the honors. Audi celebrated a five-point victory over its only rival BMW. With a second tire stop, however, Rast lost any chance of a top place.
Fans missing at the track
Hearing the Swiss national anthem on August 1st on the improvised podium in the pit lane triggered the appropriate feelings of happiness in Nico Müller. Nevertheless, there was one fly in the ointment, as he admitted to TV partner SAT1 in his first interview.
Nico Müller: "Brilliant, I couldn't wish for much else. The only thing missing are the fans in the stands. Because shared joy is the greatest joy. But we have to be grateful that we are allowed to race at all in these times. It's a lot of fun here with the DTM cars."

With the two points for second place in qualifying and the 25 points for his seventh career victory, Nico Müller also took the clear championship lead.
PS: Fabio Scherer finished a respectable twelfth in the WRT Audi, making him the best of the four rookies in the field.
