The contract extension with Nico Müller is part of a long-term strategy to bring the Jay Penske-led team to the top of one of the most competitive championships in motorsport. This was announced by Dragon Penske Motorsport on Friday evening.
The 28-year-old from Bern took part in the official test drives of all Formula E teams in Valencia two weeks ago. However, the Americans have only now confirmed him as a driver.
Putting what you have learned into practice
After not scoring a single championship point in his first season in 2019/20, contrary to expectations, things can only get better next year.
Nico Müller: "We've learned a lot in our first season together. We now want to turn that experience into points. We were inferior on our own in 2020, but we also failed to take our chances in rather chaotic races like Mexico. But I think all this has only made us stronger for the future."
Attractive WM status
In 2021, the seventh season of FIA Formula E will have a world championship title for the first time, just like Formula 1 or endurance racing. An appealing aspect for the Swiss driver and the team.
Nico Müller: "Formula E deserves the status of a world championship and it's cool to be part of it. Of course, our goal is to fight for the title, but it would be highly ambitious to set this as a target, especially as we will start the season with this year's car. However, I hope that we can take the first steps in 2021 that will lead us in this direction in the long term. "
Three Swiss at the start
Season 7 begins on January 16 and 17, 2021 with two races in Santiago de Chile. Switzerland will be represented by three drivers, the highest number since 2016 in the World Endurance Championship.
The Vaud-based Sébastien Buemi from e.dams Nissan had already been confirmed for some time, and recently the Geneva-based Edoardo Mortara from ROKiT Venturi Racing was also confirmed.
Neel Jani, on the other hand, has other priorities for the future, but is still on Porsche's list as a reserve driver together with Simona de Silvestro.
