Power from the can: The energy drink from his team sponsor Leopard seemed to have given Stefano Comini the necessary strength to take over the championship lead at the Salzburgring.

As he feared after his first victory in Imola, Stefano Comini suffered from the success ballast of 30 kilos in his VW Golf TCR at the Salzburgring with its long uphill passage: "It was a shame. On a dry track I had no chance," complained the Ticino native after his eighth place in the first race. With the weather, the tide turned in his favor. Before the start of the second half-hour race, the typical Schnürl rain set in in the Nesselgraben, where the Salzburgring is located. Now other factors suddenly counted. While his Leopard teammate Jean-Karl Vernay won, Stefano Comini was able to work his way up to third place in the turbulent race. Since the previous leader of the standings, Pepe Oriola, had fallen behind in the first race with a technical problem on his Seat Leon TCR and did not compete in the second round, the Spaniard came away empty-handed in Austria. As a result, the Swiss was now able to relegate him to second intermediate place in the championship by one point.

Typical Schnürl rain in Salzburg: Difficult conditions prevailed in the second race, but Stefano Comini in the VW Golf TCR more than coped with them.

Six drivers and three brands fight for the championship
After five of twelve events, six riders with three different brands are at the top of the standings. Stefano Comini: "Before the races in Salzburg, I had sent Pepe a text message telling him that I was going to overtake him in the championship - but I would never have thought that I could do it in this way." The next two races will be held at Oschersleben, where the TCR Germany will also be on the grid with the Swiss drivers Pascal Eberle and Ronny Jost, who are supported by Seat Switzerland.
