Motorsport: Swiss teams in the hunt for points

What do the Sauber F1 Team and Emil Frey Racing have in common? Both are chasing their first points in the championship on Sunday. It is the last chance for the team from Aargau, while the Hinwil-based team still has six more Grands Prix to go. Here is some interesting background information. New at the Sauber F1 Team: 26-year-old British driver Ruth Buscombe will be working as a strategy engineer from the next but one GP in Malaysia. Ruth Buscombe most recently worked for HaasF1.

Thanks to the new ownership structure, money has been flowing into Hinwil again for a few weeks, which can be used to recruit new employees. The announcement of the signing of Ruth Buscombe made headlines this week. What can't be bought are world championship points. At the floodlit race in Singapore, anything is possible on the most winding GP circuit of the year with the high probability of a safety car phase - another zero lap, as has been the case for 17 races, or the first points win of the current season. The Hinwil-based team will concentrate on the aerodynamic development of the Sauber C35-Ferrari. Last year, Felipe Nasr scored a championship point in the night race.

That is also important: At home in Safenwil, the Emil Frey Racing team's mechanics had to practice changing the tires several times before leaving for the Nürburgring.

Emil Frey Racing aims for a top 10 result at the end of the season
The Emil Frey Racing team also has fond memories of 2015 as far as their race at the Nürburgring next Sunday is concerned. A year ago, the team from Safenwil took class victory in the Pro-Am classification at the finale of the Blancpain GT Endurance Series. Having moved up to the top class of the professional teams, they are a long way from such success this year. But the first leading kilometers at the recent 24 Hours of Spa gave them a boost. Team boss Lorenz Frey: "For us, it's now all about finishing the season with a top 10 result. The fact that we haven't managed that yet is down to bad luck, because we had the speed with our Jaguar." As in Spa, Emil Frey Racing will field a second car. The Austrian Norbert Siedler will replace the Finn Markus Palttala, who is unable to drive, as the partner of Jonathan Hirschi and Christian Klien (A). The Pro Team remains unchanged with Lorenz Frey, Albert Costa (E) and Stéphane Ortelli (MC).
