Motorsport: Swiss in the TCR Championship

Just before the holidays, two Swiss touring car teams announced their plans for 2017. Vuković Motorsport is following in Rikli's footsteps in the FIA ETCC and Schläppi Race Tec is entering the ADAC TCR Germany. The boom in the TCR category for two-liter turbo touring cars with front-wheel drive has reached two more Swiss teams. In the past season, Milenko Vuković took the title in the German Touring Car Cup, where 1600cc turbos form the top class, with an elaborately self-designed Audi A3. Since there have been drastic changes at short notice in the organization of the series, which is hardly noticed anyway, the man from the Rhine Valley is throwing his plans for 2017 out the window.

Instead of fielding three to four Audi cars in the DTC, Vuković Motorsport is switching to the FIA European Cup with two to three TCR cars. This commitment is made possible by his second driver Franjo Kovać, who, as a customer and sponsor, is convinced of the abilities of the enterprising self-made man from St. Margrethen. Vuković has not yet decided on a brand. The favorite seems to be the Kia cee'd TCR developed by Stohl Motorsport from Vienna.

Champion in his own car: Milenko Vuković took the title in the German Touring Car Cup in the Audi A3 he designed himself. Now the driver from the Rhine Valley is entering the FIA European Cup.

A second Bernese team in the German TCR Championship
After relocating his company Schläppi Race Tec from Heimberg to Meiringen, Mathias Schläppi is drawn back to race tracks full time. The Haslitaler is fielding a Seat Leon TCR for his Bernese Canton colleague Fabian Danz in the ADAC TCR Germany. Fabian Danz raced in the BMW M235i Racing Cup in the VLN in 2016 and with a VW Golf TCR in the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Schläppi Race Tec is the second Bernese team in the German TCR Championship after Topcar Motorsport (Ronny Jost and probably a second driver).

To share the costs, Mathias Schläppi is looking for a second driver with or without a vehicle to look after. In addition, his team would also have the capacity to look after drivers in the Renault Clio Cup Central. Why not Thomas Zürcher? Thanks to a benefactor, the multiple champion in the Swiss Renault Classic Cup can finally fulfill his dream of international starts with a newly acquired racing Clio IV.
