Motorsport: Swiss deployment in Germany

The 2016 racing season is slowly approaching the home straight in Europe. The Swiss are taking advantage of this with starts in two major German races, the ADAC GT Masters in Hockenheim and the hill climb in Mickhausen. A pretty fast pair: Rahel Frey and her German team-mate Philip Geipel are aiming for their second win of the season in the ADAC GT Masters.

Several ADAC championships with Swiss participation will be decided at the finale in Hockenheim. In the GT Masters, a total of nine drivers from five different teams are still in contention for the title, but unfortunately none of them are from Switzerland. Nevertheless, Rahel Frey is looking forward to it: she celebrated her first GT3 victory here last year in an Audi R8. The youngest Swiss GT3 newcomer in Hockenheim will be 18-year-old Lucas Mauron in a Callaway Corvette.

There has been no Swiss success so far in the new TCR Germany, although Pascal Eberle has already managed two third places. The Topcar team from Uetendorf, which is also supported by Seat Switzerland, looks after four Leons for Ronny Jost, Hans and Jörg Schori and Yves Meyer. The 55-year-old Schori twins have never raced directly against each other and now have a bet going: The better driver pays the other a chocolate bar... To make the family outing on the racetrack perfect, Hans Schori spontaneously rented Ronny Jost's second car for his son Yves Meyer - who otherwise drives in the Audi TT Cup.

Mass and class: Two dozen drivers will compete against each other in the TCR Germany finale, including several Swiss drivers in Opel Astra, Seat Leon and VW Golf.

While the Schori duo have no ambitions other than personal fun, Jasmin Preisig wants to be the first woman ever to score points in only her second outing with the Opel Astra TCR. No easy task, as the field of 25 cars is stronger than ever before. However, the Swiss are among the contenders for victory in the Renault Clio Cup Central Europe. Dino Calcum (D) and Stucki Motorsport have already been crowned champions in the drivers' and team standings, while Andreas Stucki could finish second.

Swiss favorites at the Mickhausen hill climb
In the absence of the strongest Italians and Eastern Europeans, racing car champion Eric Berguerand is the clear favorite at the Mickhausen International Hill Climb. With Marcel Steiner and Reto Meisel, two other strong Swiss drivers are aiming for a top result in the overall classification. The village south of Augsburg can be reached in just under two hours from the eastern border.
