Motorsport: Porsche-Philipp sprints to the top
Philipp Frommenwiler achieved his best result to date at the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Hungary. This is the right motivation for him and Fach Auto Tech for the home race in Hockenheim, where Jeffrey Schmidt also has high hopes. Philipp Frommenwiler's sixth place in qualifying was enough to make you sit up and take notice, and he even improved by one position in Sunday's race ahead of the Hungarian GP. "My car felt really good throughout the weekend and I was able to put the pressure on right from the start," said the 26-year-old from Thurgau. This result is all the more valuable for Philipp Frommenwiler as he did not benefit from any retirements. He also left his normally faster team-mate Matteo Cairoli behind him in the race. The 20-year-old Porsche junior from Como failed to get off to a good start, dropping from third to sixth place behind Frommenwiler. The Swiss did not give any gifts, so that Cairoli even lost a position in the direct duel.
Team boss Alex Fach therefore had mixed feelings, as he wholeheartedly wished his compatriot the best result so far, but is racing for the title with the Italian and therefore needs every point: "Philipp showed nerves of steel. He was under enormous pressure because he only had one good set of tires left in qualifying. We are happy for him and believe that a podium is still possible this year."
Swiss season highlight in Hockenheim
The Motodrom Hockenheim, where the Swiss feel at home, would be a suitable venue. "We've already been there for testing and should be able to top the result from Hungary," believes the team boss. This also applies to Jeffrey Schmidt, who finished fourth in Hungary and is also fourth in the championship: "Having always finished on the podium in the Carrera Cup Germany in the last five races, I'm looking forward to this race in front of many Swiss fans all the more. I like the Hockenheimring and know the way to the podium pretty well..."
