Most visitors to autobau in Romanshorn, the world of experience on Lake Constance run by patron and car collector Fredy Lienhard, have never seen anything like it. Through the mediation of AutoSprintCH sports editor Peter Wyss, Urs Erbacher's first Top Fuel dragster found a new home within a few weeks. "I no longer drive this dragster, with which I won all three European Championship titles in the Top Fuel class. I would have liked to keep it, but I need space and budget for the new car with which I have my eye on the seventh EM title. I'm proud that this car is now on display here," says the Arlesheim motor sportsman happily.
Among the many sensational exhibits, many of which feature Swiss motorsport history, this vehicle from the top class of European drag racing is the most powerful to date in terms of its dimensions and performance. Erbacher held the European record for a long time with the approximately 11000 hp rocket (V8 engine with nitromethanol as fuel), which is over 530 km/h after four seconds and then has to be slowed down with two parachutes. In addition to the complete American-built car, a separate engine block and Erbacher's three FIA European Championship trophies are also on display.
The autobau in Romanshorn is open to the public all year round on Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Events for companies and private individuals can take place at any time by appointment. The main attraction is the almost complete line of sports cars and Formula 1 racing cars from constructor Peter Sauber.
