The two qualifying sessions and the two races that took place on the same day presented a particular challenge. Schmidt didn't let this stop him and undeterred secured first place on the grid for both races. And the 21-year-old successfully defended this position: With good starts and the experience he has gained so far, he kept the competition behind him. He managed six victories in six races. In addition, he equaled the record set by Abdulaziz Al-Faisal in the 2009/10 season, who also won the first six races of the season.

"Winning was the ultimate goal and I'm very happy about my first victories in 2016. Winning is something wonderful. Still, the real thrill of racing is fighting your rivals for every inch. I missed that a bit when I was driving away alone at the front," confessed the Liestaler.
