Motorsport: Hugo de Sadeleer is the winner
More than a year after the last success of a Swiss driver, Hugo de Sadeleer added his name to the list of Formula Renault Eurocup winners in Spa (B). He thus follows the current Renault F1 juniors Louis Delétraz and Kevin Jörg. For years, the Renault Eurocup with its standardized two-litre racing cars was regarded as the junior formula par excellence. Whether it still is today is debatable, as the number of participants is declining while the FIA Formula 4 with 1600cc engines is booming worldwide. However, it is still a good training ground for young talent - and one of the model students is now Hugo de Sadeleer.
The 19-year-old from Lausanne has been racing in Formula Renault 2.0 with the French team Tech 1 for three years. Last weekend, he made his breakthrough: Hugo de Sadeleer won the first of the two half-hour races in the Eurocup on the Spa-Francorchamps GP circuit. The last time Kevin Jörg achieved this was in Silverstone in the summer of 2015.

In the footsteps of Kevin Jörg and Louis Delétraz
"I only managed sixth place on the grid in qualifying, but our aerodynamics, which are set up for low downforce, worked perfectly in the race," said the Vaud native, delighted with his biggest success to date. The following day, de Sadeleer finished a good third on the podium once again, scoring almost twice as many points in Belgium as in all five previous race weekends.
British driver Lando Norris has been crowned the early winner of the 2016 European Cup and, like Louis Delétraz and Kevin Jörg last year, will be driving for the German Kaufmann Racing team. This year, Louis Delétraz is competing for the title in Formula V8 (formerly Formula Renault 3.5), while Kevin Jörg is experiencing a difficult season in the GP3 series. His next chance to finally secure a podium finish will come next weekend at the Formula 1 race in Malaysia.
