Motorsport: Brilliant start to Asia for Rahel Frey
What a start to the season for Rahel Frey in the Audi R8 LMS Cup. After the first two races in China, the woman from Solothurn leads the championship! It wasn't empty words that Rahel Frey spouted in the interview with AutoSprintCH online (see report of May 19) when she stated victories and the title as her goal ahead of the Audi R8 LMS Cup season opener in Asia. She already took a first step in this direction last weekend at the Shanghai GP Circuit.
In Saturday's race, the 30-year-old Audi factory driver finished third, 3.4 seconds behind the winner Martin Rump. In the battle for second place, she was only beaten by fractions of a second. On the other day, Rahel Frey was on pole position in the 50th race of this GT3 one-make cup. After a good start and a clever choice of lines, she took the lead until the first corner, which she did not relinquish in the course of the 27-minute race despite carrying 20 kilos of success ballast from the previous day in her Audi R8.

Which championship has priority for Rahel Frey?
"I'm over the moon. We made a few setup changes for the second race and my car felt like an airplane. It's really great to start the season like this," said a satisfied Rahel Frey. Nevertheless, there is one drop of bitterness. After two of twelve races, she leads the championship. Since the next two races in Thailand overlap with the ADAC GT Masters at Spielberg (A), it's now up to Audi to decide where the fast Swiss should start. Since she sees her greater chances of winning a championship one day in Asia, her wish would be an easy guess, especially since she enjoys traveling to distant countries...
