Motorsport: Almost a Swiss GT Championship...
When the 2016 ADAC GT Masters kicks off next weekend in Oschersleben, there will be no fewer than seven Swiss drivers in the field of around 30 GT3 sports cars, each with two drivers. Rahel Frey and her German partner Philip Geipel, whose family owns the YACO Racing Team, want to build on their victory at the 2015 finale in Hockenheim with a new Audi R8 LMS. The omens are good, as the customer sports cars from Ingolstadt topped the timesheets in pre-testing. While multiple amateur champion Toni Seiler has switched to historic motorsport after more than 100 ADAC GT races, his former team-mate Remo Lips is aiming for overall victory in the Trophy (as the classification for gentleman drivers is now called) in the old Corvette Z06.R of a German team.
Rolf Ineichen dominated the B classification in the Carrera Cup Germany for three years and is now trying to put what he has learned into practice in the GT Masters with a Lamborghini Huracan and German GT rookie Christian Engelhart as his partner at Grasser Racing. One of his opponents will be Patric Niederhauser in another Lambo from Attempto Racing.
Comeback of Christopher Zanella with Porsche GT3 R
After a two-year creative break, Christopher Zanella from Schaffhausen is returning to racing with Schütz Motorsport in a new Porsche 911 GT3 R. For him and Nikolaj Rogivue, who has joined the Zakspeed championship-winning team in a new AMG-Mercedes GT3, the GT3 category is new territory, as they previously raced in monoposto series. Louis Delétraz, who has factory support from BMW, can only contest four races in a new M6 GT3 from Schubert, as the Geneva native is concentrating on the Formula 3.5 V8.
All GT races (14 at seven events) will be broadcast live by TV station Sport1 shortly after midday on Saturdays and Sundays.
