Motorsport: Fässler foregoes Nürburgring start
Marcel Fässler has been chasing a triumph in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring since 2004, when he first got his hands on a potential overall winner's car in the form of the Opel Astra V8 Coupé from Phoenix. Now it will certainly be 2017 before his dream could come true. Audi Sport would have loved to have him in one of its factory-supported customer teams [...]

Audi Sport would have loved to put him in one of its factory-supported customer teams but the triple Le Mans winner and 2012 Endurance World Champion is voluntarily foregoing the marathon in the Eifel this year. Marcel Fässler: "The reason is the tight schedule over the next three months. The Nürburgring 24 Hours will take place just one week before the test day at Le Mans. In addition, I'd have to contest two VLN races beforehand. And finally, we still have an endurance run planned with the R18. The whole thing would be too stressful for me because one of the two races would suffer. When I go to the start, I want to be able to give 100 percent. As much as I'd like to finally win at the Nürburgring after leading there so many times, Le Mans is closer to my heart."

Start at the 12h of Sebring with Corvette Racing
With his class victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona last January, Marcel Fässler achieved another career goal as the most successful Swiss endurance driver of all time. This week, he will again compete with Corvette Racing in the Sebring 12 Hours, where he clinched overall victory three years ago in the Audi factory team's last outing in this U.S. classic. Having already triumphed in the Spa 24 Hours in 2007 with Phoenix Racing on a Corvette, Marcel Fässler now really only needs an overall victory at the Nürburgring marathon to immortalize himself in the annals as the winner of all major 24-hour races.
