Motorsport: End of a series

At the third round of the Porsche Supercup in Austria, Fach Auto Tech suffered a slight setback. On the other hand, Jeffrey Schmidt and Philipp Frommenwiler were delighted with their best results of the season so far. The knot is untied: Philipp Frommenwiler put in a great performance at Spielberg, even though his weekend didn't start well.

Alex Fach had one eye smiling and one eye crying after the third Supercup race as part of Formula 1 in Spielberg. Matteo Cairoli's third pole position in a row and Philipp Frommenwiler's best result in the Supercup so far on the other day brought him joy. At the same time, however, the Italian's winning streak came to an end when he dropped back to fourth place right at the start ("I had to use the clutch again so as not to provoke a false start") and was subsequently unable to improve in the race, which was neutralized for a long time by three safety car phases. In the end, the sovereign winner of the first two races in Barcelona and Monaco even came away empty-handed because the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup was thrown out of the classification due to underweight. The team from Schwyz appealed, and the boss is in good spirits that the valuable points will be credited again, although this will take some time.

Before that, the fourth decision at Silverstone is coming up on Sunday. If the 20-year-old Porsche junior manages to qualify and start as well as he did at the beginning of the season, he will at least be a contender for a podium finish. In the meantime, the Thurgau native will have to confirm the upward trend from Austria, where he finished sixth and is provisionally rated fifth, which the entire team has been longing for. Because he was only able to complete two laps in free practice after suffering suspension damage, this was by no means to be expected.

Jeffrey Schmidt back on the podium
Jeffrey Schmidt's series of more or less unsuccessful Porsche races also came to an end. In Spielberg, the man from Basel already amazed the crowd two years ago as second in the Supercup, last year he took his first ever victory here in the Carrera Cup Germany in the rain, and on Sunday he once again made it onto the coveted podium in third place. The fact that he fended off all of Cairoli's attacks is what sets him apart. But now comes Silverstone, where Schmidt feels less at home due to a lack of experience (only one race in 2015). "Of the upcoming tracks, this is the most difficult for me. That's why I want to take as many points as possible to maintain my sixth place in the championship or even improve. After that, we can really hit the ground running at Hockenheim, Budapest and Monza."
