No fewer than 57 GT3 cars are entered for the first round of the Endurance Cup at Monza on April 24, which means a new record number of participants. At the season opener for the Sprint Cup in Misano (April 10, 2016), 38 cars will be on the grid. In terms of time, the Swiss teams and drivers are already well on their way. Patric Niederhauser and his Italian partner Daniele Zampieri achieved top-10 times in both sessions on the second day of testing with the Lamborghini Huracan from Attempto Racing. The Bernese will be the only Swiss to contest both GT series from which the 2016 Blancpain GT overall winner will be determined. The defending champion is former Sauber F1 test driver Robin Frijns (NL). Alex Fontana from Ticino will compete as a new member in the McLaren GT Academy with a McLaren 650S GT3 only on the endurance track and was not yet at the music in the south of France.

Lorenz Frey is the new head of the Swiss team
The Emil Frey Racing Team appeared with a partially new lineup. The previous project manager and driver Fredy Barth is no longer part of the team, and technical responsibility now lies solely with Jürg Flach. During the tests, Lorenz Frey, who has been promoted to team boss, and Monegasque Stéphane Ortelli shared the work with the further developed Emil Frey Jaguar G3 from Safenwil.
In the second session of the first day, the Swiss big cat attracted attention with the fifth-best lap time and a gap of just six and a half tenths to the top, and on the second day it was in midfield. The newly formed team will be presented in Safenwil on March 18, 2016.
