DTM: Third victory for Edoardo Mortara

Edoardo Mortara from Geneva celebrated his third DTM victory of the season at the Nürburgring, moving up to second place in the standings. Nico Müller finished fifth in the same race. Jeffrey Schmidt and Philip Ellis were also on the podium after their Cup races. Already at the start to the second DTM race, Edoardo Mortara dashed from [...]

Everything is still possible now: After clinching his third victory of the season at the Nürburgring, Edoardo Mortara has realistic title chances again. However, the Geneva native is now reliant on the help of his Audi teammates.

At the start of the second DTM race, Edoardo Mortara advanced from sixth to fourth place. After a long first stint and a quick pit stop for a mandatory tire change, "Edo" returned to the track behind the Mercedes of pole-sitter Lucas Auer. Seven laps later, the driver from Geneva took the lead and drove to an unchallenged victory, the 50th for Audi Team Abt Sportsline from Kempten in the Allgäu region.

Edoardo Mortara still has chances for the podium
In the championship, Edoardo Mortara is now in second place behind avid points collector Marco Wittmann with BMW. Without a wrong decision by race control at an earlier race and the premature stable rule in favor of Audi colleague Jamie Green, his gap in the standings would be less than 33 points. With four races still to go, this is still easily catchable if all Audi colleagues now drive for the recently naturalized Italian-Swiss. One of them is Nico Müller who, after an eleventh-place finish on Saturday in good fifth place, scored another ten points on Sunday and, as the fourth-best of the eight Audi factory drivers, is again in eighth intermediate place in the championship.

Chasing a podium finish at the Nürburgring: Jeffrey Schmidt was unable to make the most of his pole position in the Porsche Carrera Cup, but is now fully motivated for October's home race at Hockenheim even after finishing second.

Pole position and second place for Jeffrey Schmidt
Two more Swiss drivers stood on the Nürburgring podium. Philip Ellis, who is based in Zug and competes for England, achieved his best result to date in third place in the Audi TT Cup. Jeffrey Schmidt captured pole position for the 14th race of the season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. However, after initially leading the race, the driver from Liestal had to give way to Michael Ammermüller (D) who, unlike Jeffrey Schmidt, had started on fresh tires. With two top results at the finale at Hockenheim on October 17 and 18, Jeffrey Schmidt can still move up to second or third place in the championship.
