Motorsport: Danny Krieg is Hillclimb Cup winner
Although he was at the top of the Swiss Slalom Championship table, Danny Krieg decided to bet his chips on the Mountain Cup in the middle of the season. The man from Schwyz has now won this in an impressive and well-deserved manner. As only drivers with powerful vehicles have a real chance of winning the title in the Swiss Hillclimb Championship for touring cars, the sporting authority ASS launched the Hillclimb Cup two years ago. Here, touring cars up to two liters and racing sports cars up to 1.6 liters displacement can score points in each class. So if you always have enough competitors and beat them, you are predestined for the title.
While Martin Bürki, winner of the Mountain Cup in the first two years, concentrated on the slalom championships due to the two overlapping dates with Hemberg and Reitnau, Danny Krieg opted for the mountain races. And he did so even though he was tied on points with the Bernese driver at the top of the slalom championship table. His courageous decision was rewarded. In the class with the most participants, the E1 group up to two liters, the man from Schwyz took victory after victory in his 300 hp Audi A4 STW. As a result, he is already the winner of the 2016 Hillclimb Cup before the final hill climb in Les Paccots.

A lot of time invested in optimal preparation
Apart from Oberhallau, Krieg improved the existing class record: "I was sometimes amazed at my own times. In my fourth season with this car, I reached the limit almost everywhere. However, I also invested a lot of time to set myself and the car up optimally for the races." Only Thomas Zürcher and Stephan Burri are still in contention for second place overall. Because the Renault Classic Cup in Les Paccots, which he has already won, does not hold a championship race, Zürcher is taking his chance to score additional points in the InterSwiss group as an exception. Meanwhile, Stephan Burri has Martin Bürki as an almost unbeatable opponent, as he did at Gurnigel. Martin Bürki set the last 1600 class record in Group IS at the Gurnigel, which did not yet belong to him.
