Motorsport: Cédric and Jessica clearly in the lead

While Cédric Althaus continued his winning streak in the Renault Clio Alps Trophy in France, the grapes are hanging higher for European Cup winner Michaël Burri in WRC3. At the Rally Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise in Burgundy, Cédric Althaus from the Valais, navigated by Jessica Bayard, seemed to feel visibly at home in the Renault Clio R3T. Although he won the [...]

A fast couple: Jessica Bayard and Cedric Althaus don't just get along well in the Clio cockpit.

Although he started there for the first time, Cédric Althaus was in third place overall at the end of the first stage. Only when the outside temperatures rose significantly and the grip with the front-wheel-drive car on the hot asphalt weakened did the 2015 Swiss Junior Rally Champion let off the gas a little. After that, a Frenchman in a four-wheel drive vehicle took over third place overall. For Cédric Althaus, it was still easily enough for fourth place and victory in Group R and he Renault Clio R3T Alps Trophy.

After their spectacular crash at the Critérium Jurassien, Olivier Courtois/Hubert Risser had to take a compulsory break and accordingly took a cautious approach. Although they improved in the course of the rally, they were far behind the Swiss pair in the overall classification (12th) and in the Clio Trophy. Cédric Althaus and Jessica Bayard now lead the championship by a clear margin ahead of the five French teams, two of which were absent due to driver injuries following accidents at the last round.

Michaël Burri slowly gets closer to the top
Michaël Burri has a tougher stand in WRC3 as part of the World Rally Championship. As winner of the European Clio R3T Trophy, the man from Jura was allowed to participate for the first time in Portugal in May at the expense of Renault Sport. Michaël Burri took no risks on the tough gravel stages and finished seventh in the WRC3 standings without any major problems.

Until the second event on the penultimate weekend in Poland, the Swiss was even allowed to test for a day and try out new chassis components. Unfortunately, a shock absorber then broke during the rally, resulting in only WRC3 rank. Renault Sport nevertheless drew a positive conclusion: Michaël Burri had made progress with the set-up of the car and his speed, and he had come closer to the WRC3 top.
