After 15 of 18 Grand Prix, the Swiss Kalex rider is third in the overall standings. He is 43 points behind world championship leader and last year's world champion Johann Zarco (France), with a maximum of 75 points still up for grabs at the three remaining GPs in Australia (next weekend), Malaysia and Valencia. Tom Lüthi is only 22 points off second place overall, which is currently still occupied by Spaniard Alex Rins, who is suffering from a shoulder injury.
Lüthi dominated the race in Japan from A to Z. He was at the front of the field in all training sessions, with only Johann Zarco posing a threat to the Swiss rider. Tom Lüthi: "The excellent work of my team on the training days paid off. I was perfectly prepared for the race. When Johann Zarco came closer towards the end of the race, I stayed calm despite the extra pressure and didn't make a mistake. Now we want to continue at this high level in the remaining three races. The title is far from lost!"
