Motorcycle: New regulations for tests
Anyone who applies for a learner's permit for motorcycle categories "A" or "A restricted" by December 31, 2016, can take the test on a motorcycle without a legally defined lower engine capacity limit. On December 18, 2015, the Federal Council increased the power for the motorcycle category "A restricted" from 25 to 35 kilowatts. In doing so, it set minimum engine capacity sizes for test vehicles for the "A restricted" (400 cc) and "A unrestricted" (600 cc) categories, with a permitted engine capacity tolerance of minus 10 cc. The regulations came into force on April 1, 2016. The same regulation also applies in the European Union.
Transitional regulation without lower engine capacity limit
In the meantime, practice has shown that motorcyclists want to buy a motorcycle with which they can also take the practical driving test. However, this posed problems for importers, who had purchased motorcycles with smaller displacement before the new regulation became known. However, these no longer met the requirements for test vehicles that have been in force since April 1, 2016, and were in danger of becoming slow sellers. The Federal Roads Office FEDRO has now complied with the request of motorcycle importers. The association of importers "motosuisse" welcomes this directive of FEDRO.
