After the takeover of the Kiefer Racing Team by David Pickworth, an English businessman with allegedly Russian investors behind him, definitely fell through on January 8th, fortunately plan B came into effect, which was set up early and as a precaution by Dominique Aegerter's long-time manager, Dr. Robert Siegrist.
This consisted of motivating the racing driver's existing personal sponsors to continue their involvement and, in some cases, to make a more extensive financial commitment, as well as acquiring new sponsors, which the manager ultimately succeeded in doing.
An investment in the Kiefer Racing Team of more than half of the annual budget, with the rider forgoing wages and bonuses, has already been made. This has secured the future of both the Kiefer Racing Team and, above all, Dominique Aegerter.
KTM's trust in the team and in Siegrist also helped. Kiefer Racing, KTM and the manager have come together in a spirit of trust. As a result, Aegerter will be able to contest the 2018 season on a KTM racing machine.
With the help of a crowdfunding campaign initiated by Dominique's brother Kevin, further funds were generated, primarily to hold additional tests and finance newly developed KTM equipment with a view to a successful 2018 season.
Top 5 as a goal for the season
At the team presentation at the stand of sponsor MotoScout24 at Swiss Moto in Zurich, Aegerter emphasized his clear goal of finishing the season in the top 5. His new KTM motorcycle was unveiled in Aegerter's favorite colors of neon yellow with red and the traditional start number #77.
Dominique Aegerter: "I'm delighted, we've achieved something huge. We owe it to our loyal sponsors that we can be here today. I'm ready and fully motivated for the new season. I will give my all to repay this trust and the great support of all parties involved with great successes."
The World Championship kicks off on March 18 with the traditional opening race in Qatar.
