PALBO46's eleven-minute highlights are worth watching. You rarely see such a collection of R5 cars.

This time, Valentino Rossi was not the center of attention. As the winner of the past seven years, the MotoGP star had left his mark on this event. With the exception of pure Vale fans, tens of thousands of spectators nevertheless made the pilgrimage to the Autodromo Internazionale di Monza, including many from Switzerland.

Ticino winner beats Hyundai works driver
On the GP circuit, the legendary steep face and the asphalted roads in the infield, the organizers staked out a total of eight special stages, five of which had to be driven twice, sometimes in the dark and often in a pack. The shortest SS measured only 1.26 kilometers, the two longest 44.8 kilometers.

Victory went to Italy's Andrea Crugnola in a VW Polo R5 ahead of Hyundai works driver Dani Sordo from Spain. Crugnola won the Swiss championship round in Ticino last season, then in a Ford Fiesta WRC. Five of the eight best SS times went to his account.

Ballinari in the Volkswagen Polo for the first time
With Andrea Sacha Togni in the co-driver's seat, Ivan Ballinari also waved over the stages peppered with many chicanes. Instead of his usual Skoda Fabia R5, the Swiss rally champion took his seat in a VW Polo R5 from Roger Tuning. In a field dominated by R5 teams, the Ticino driver finished in a good twentieth place.

Normally, "Bally" rides to get on the podium. Here, however, he was all about having fun and putting on a show in front of many of his fans. On average, the fast Amag employee lost between 0.66 and 3.17 seconds per kilometer to the best time - the least on the two longest stages, the most on the shortest. At the finish after a little less than an hour and a half of driving, his deficit was 2'20.5 minutes.
