XMAX 300
The new scooter X-MAX-300 from Yamaha convinces as a solid, balanced model with its qualities.

With the X-MAX-300, Yamaha is following the general trend towards upgrading in the mid-range displacement class. The new mid-range scooter is a completely new development and far more than just a "pimped" version of the previous bestseller X-MAX 250.

Stately dimensions
The impressive dimensions are already impressive. The X-MAX 300 is larger than most of its competitors - but at 176 kg it is also heavier. That the latter does not necessarily have to be a disadvantage is underpinned by the amazingly light-footed handling characteristics for a vehicle of this caliber. Thanks to the well-balanced geometry and the well-chosen wheel dimensions (15-inch front, 14-inch rear), it weaves nimbly and agilely through city traffic. On country roads and the highway, the motorcycle-like chassis ensures stability and safety.

Performance increased
43 cm³ more displacement, four valves instead of the previous two, and modern Blue Core technology result in an increase in rated power of an impressive 40 percent to 28 hp. The continuously variable transmission ensures rapid acceleration - both when starting at traffic lights and when overtaking. The top speed of around 150 km/h is higher than that of comparable competitors.

Useful features
ABS and a traction control system that can be switched off if required are also on board, as is the so-called Smartkey system, which enables the ignition and other functions such as unlocking the helmet storage compartment under the seat via the radio key in the jacket pocket. Other equipment details worth mentioning are the two compartments in the leg shield - one lockable and with a 12-volt socket - the 50 mm height-adjustable windshield, and the handlebars, which can be moved 20 mm further back if required.

Relaxed sitting position
The seating position is perfect for drivers up to 180 cm tall. There is also plenty of room for back-seat passengers, especially since well-positioned grab handles allow safe and relaxed riding for two. The new X-MAX 300 costs 6490 Swiss francs, which is no bargain, but due to the equipment and the high-quality workmanship it is a fair offer. (Author: Hanspeter Küffer)
