The McLaren cars with the numbers 59 and 95 achieved good results in Imola.

After a strong performance with an intelligent tire strategy, McLaren and United Autosports scored their first FIA WEC points last weekend in Imola. The number 95 McLaren GT3 Evo scored eight points for sixth place.

Slicks and rain tires
Both McLaren GT3 Evo cars were in the Top 8 when the driver change was due. Nicolas Costa took over number 59 and Nico Pino the 95, with both drivers subsequently battling the onset of rain. The team decided to put rain tires on 59 before Gregoire Saucy took the wheel for the rest of the race. The sister car with Marino Sato in the cockpit continued on slicks. Unlike many of their rivals, both cars stayed on the track and finished the race successfully.

Major progress
"It was a big step forward compared to Qatar. Qualifying in Imola wasn't good, but today the drivers and the cars performed magnificently. I am grateful for the performance of United Autosports, McLaren and the drivers have brought us this far," said Richard Dean, CEO United Autosports. Mick McDonagh, Director MSO Motorsport, McLaren Automotive, is also satisfied: "I am delighted with the result. We have been working hard since Qatar to improve the cars. Now we have been able to reap the rewards of this work."
