Edoardo Mortara has already won six races on the spectacular street circuit, more than any other European. Two in Formula 3, then still under Italian nationality, four with GT3 sports cars.
In the meantime, the dual citizen born and raised in Geneva is driving with a Swiss license. And as in FIA Formula E, he will be racing under the Swiss flag this weekend in the FIA GT World Cup race. Mortara will be driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 from GruppeM Racing.
Alexandre Imperatori in a Nissan GT-R GT3 is a second Swiss-born driver. However, the man from Freiburg, who is married to a Chinese woman and lives in Shanghai, is driving for China, especially as his team, KCMG, is based in Hong Kong.
Reminder of the spectacular launch accident of 2017
Last year, the GT race had to be interrupted for a long time due to one of the most spectacular accidents in motor racing. Among the victims was Nico Müller's Audi R8 LMS, for which the weekend was thus over.
Unfortunately, the driver from Bern is not in the line-up of the two Audi customer teams this year. Instead, his DTM teammate Robin Frijns and Ricardo Feller's ADAC GT Masters partner Christopher Haase are.
The short video shows the start phase of 2017 with the accident from about 2:00 minutes.

Mortara with starting number 1
The 31-year-old Mercedes driver escaped the mass crash because it happened on the first race lap behind the leading group. For Edo, the Macau weekend went perfectly with the fastest time in practice, pole position, first place in the qualifying race and victory in the main race. As the defending champion, he is entitled to race number 1 at this year's Macau Grand Prix.
This year, only 15 drivers will be competing for the FIA GT World Cup instead of 20 as in 2017. However, this does not detract from the performance density and quality of the small field. Whether it also reduces the risk of accidents remains to be seen.
All races in livestream
For the GT starters, a twelve-lap qualifying race is scheduled on Saturday (November 17) and an 18-lap main race on Sunday (November 18). The Macau Grand Prix of Formula 3 and also the final of the WTCR will take place without Swiss participation.
All practice sessions and races in the six different categories from Macau can be followed on the internet in excellent quality via livestream on the organizer's homepage or Facebook page. Spectacular scenes are guaranteed in all races.
