Switzerland will not only be well represented by Nico Müller and Philip Ellis in the "new" DTM for GT3 professionals, but also in the DTM Trophy reserved for tamer GT4 sports cars. Following the category change of the DTM, it will be even more important as a GT talent pool for the future.
From Lamborghini to Audi
That's why Lucas Ayrton Mauron also wants to attract attention here, as he did last year when he decided three rounds in his favor with an Audi R8 LMS. However, the driver from St. Gallen with Brazilian roots is changing teams and will now compete in a ten-cylinder from Heide-Motorsport with just under 500 hp.
The 23-year-old, who will turn 23 on May 25, made the selection for the Young Driver Program of the Lamborghini Squadra Corse in 2017. He then first gained experience in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo (a 2nd place in Spa), in the ADAC GT Masters and in the Blancpain Endurance Cup (category win in 2019 at Silverstone).
In 2020, Mauron switched to the newly launched DTM Trophy for production-based GT4 sports cars. After a tough start to the season with the still unfavorably rated Audi R8, he scored four pole positions and three consecutive race wins as well as a podium (3rd) at the last two events at Zolder and Hockenheim.
Justified optimism
Thanks to the strong final spurt, the team finished fifth overall in the championship, so that the title is now a realistic goal for the season.
Lucas Mauron: "I'm very grateful for the opportunity to compete in the DTM Trophy again. I already know the Audi R8 LMS GT very well and am looking forward to it when it finally starts again in June. The first tests with the team at the Lausitzring were promising and I'm optimistic that we'll be racing at the front."
14 Sprints in the DTM Preliminary Program
The DTM Trophy will kick off the new season at the DTM season opener in Monza from June 18-20, 2021. Further stops are the Lausitzring (July 23-25), Nürburgring (August 20-22), Red Bull Ring (September 03-05), Assen (September 17-19) and the season finale at the Hockenheimring (October 01-03).
The date for Norisring (late summer or fall) is still open, because it is hoped that this will provide access to the public.
Two sprint races will be held each weekend over a distance of 30 minutes plus 1 lap without pit stops or driver changes. All races will be broadcast live in full length on Sport1 and online via livestream on grid.dtm.com transferred.
