The team from Hinwil is now called Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN. Sauber Motorsport AG has entered into a multi-year partnership with the Polish mineral oil giant PKN Orlen. To date, Orlen is only represented in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania and Canada.

The PKN ORLEN brand will appear on the new C39 and throughout the Formula One team's environment. A key element will also be an extensive fan program.

Beautiful and dramatic memories
This commitment is accompanied by the signing of Robert Kubica as an official reserve driver. The now 35-year-old Pole gave Sauber (then BMW-Sauber) its only Formula 1 victory to date at the 2008 Canadian GP after a serious accident at the same venue the year before. With three second and three third places as further top results, Kubica finished the 2008 world championship in fourth position.

Return to the team of his heart
After four seasons with the Swiss team, he moved to Renault in 2010, where he was forced out of the race in a serious rally accident before the start of his second year in February 2011. After years of recovery, Kubica returned to the premier class in 2019 with Williams. For the most part, he brought up the rear, but at least scored one world championship point.

Robert Kubica: "I'm really looking forward to this new chapter in my career. This team retains a special place in my heart, and there are still many employees from back then. Times and circumstances may have changed, but I am convinced that I will find the same objective as before to succeed. That's what we will work on together."

In the 2019 GP season, Robert Kubica and Antonio Giovinazzi met a couple of times on the back rows of the grid, but from this year on they will be teammates.
