After a year's break, the Karting Championships, sponsored by Fredy Lienhard (autobau Romanshorn) as title sponsor, returned to Wohlen. As nice as the short journey was for most, many did not agree with the criticism of the condition and danger of this bumpy kart track, which in places was surrounded only by sandbanks and piles of tires. With one exception, all accidents were minor.
However, the conditions on Saturday were the same for everyone and the weather was also ideal, after it had been cold and rainy in free practice on Friday. The winners proved just how important a good set-up is for both the driver and his kart, especially in Wohlen. In all but two cases, the fastest drivers in training also won all the races.
In the KZ2 shift karts, André Reinhard was able to prevent Nicolas Rohrbasser's total success after a rocket start in the second heat. In the absence of Pavia winner Loic Vindice, who is concentrating on the French championship, the man from Geneva, who races for Spirit Racing, took the clear lead in the standings. Reinhard retired after a collision in the final race, but is now still second.
Dominik Weibel put in an exceptional performance, finishing third behind his Exprit team colleague Evan Vantaggiato despite an arm injury after a training accident. Sven Müller had to abandon the start of the first heat due to a clutch problem and fought his way up to fourth place in the 26-lap final after finishing ninth in the second heat.
In the OK Senior class, Pascal Von Allmen completed a flawless triple from pole position. Yannick Kläy was unable to find a way past in the final race and even let Ilia Drovossekov take him by surprise in the very last corner.
In the Iame X30 Challenge too, Patrick Näscher was not to be displaced from first place by any of his 17 opponents in any session. The rider from Liechtenstein is now also the clear leader in the championship. Luca Pozzo was even happier than Steven Planchamp about his second place and his first ever podium.
Mike Müller from the Bern Kart Racing Club was even more superior than Näscher in the X30 Juniors. Only in qualifying did Jasin Ferati, who came second three times, manage to leave him behind. Champion Savio Moccia had to make do with three third places.
Elia Sperandio was also in a class of his own in the Super Mini, with only Michael Sauter able to keep up with him in the second heat. Hugo Giraud narrowly won the battle for third place in the final against Florent Panès.
Next race on May 20/21 in Lignières
The next kart race will once again take place in Switzerland. Like the SKM final in September, the TCS circuit in Lignières will be the venue on May 20/21. There, all kart racers will once again find a perfectly flat and fast track with good run-off areas. It can also be viewed from the natural grandstands.
