Four of the six rounds of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship 2019 have been completed. No champion has yet been determined in any category. Nevertheless, the first preliminary decisions have been made in Mirecourt, France, on the 1267-meter track south of Nancy. First and foremost in the categories KZ2 and OK Senior.
Müller dominates in the switch karts
In the KZ2 category, Mike Müller won all his races and thus built up a comfortable cushion of 70 points in the championship. The Sigriswil native can already become champion in Levier (August 18) thanks to his third full score in four events.
His direct competitors gave nothing to each other. Championship runner-up Isabelle von Lerber finished 4th and 3rd in the heats, while third-placed Vincenzo Alvaro was fourth once and second once. In the final, both were on course for the podium when a collision occurred, resulting in Ivan Rechsteiner and Samir Ben inheriting the places of honor.
Von Allmen wins by a narrow margin
Pascal von Allmen also put himself in a top starting position with a strong weekend in the OK Senior. He not only recorded the fastest times in training, but also won the final after the first heat and second place in the second heat - albeit only 29 thousandths ahead of Samuel Sätteli. Von Allmen's lead over last year's champion Patrick Näscher is now already 54 points, although the Liechtensteiner was absent in Château Gaillard.
Elia Sperandio also extends the lead in the standings
In the OK Juniors, Elia Sperandio was the only driver to finish under 55 seconds in qualifying. In the heats, too, the little St. Gallen native left no stone unturned, although his closest rival Sebastian Kraft came very close, especially in the second run. In the final, Sperandio had his hands full keeping first Kraft and later Shannon Lugassy behind him. At the finish, he was just 34 thousandths ahead of last year's Super Mini champion from Geneva after driving fighting line to stay in front. His lead over Kraft is 38 and over Hugo Giraud already 98 points.
Good show from Shaw
In the youngest Super Mini category (8 to 12 years), Roy Alan Shaw extended his lead in the standings. The Valais native not only decided both heats in his favor from pole position, he also prevailed in the eleven-lap final with a lead of around five seconds over second-placed Elia Pappacena. After four of six rounds, the eleven-year-old is 45 points ahead of Pappacena in the championship, who has taken over second place in the standings from Enea Frey.
Bad luck for Léna Bühler
What Shaw and Müller were in their categories, Savio Moccia managed in the X30 Challenge Switzerland category. The 17-year-old from Lyss was already ahead in qualifying and was unstoppable in both heats. Moccia was also irresistible in the final, scoring a full 75 points to take the lead in the standings. He pulled away from Léna Bühler early on and was even able to extend his lead. When the three-time season winner broke down due to an engine problem, Moccia was on his own. At the finish, his lead over Ramon Rudolf von Rohr was almost nine seconds.
Title fight comes to a head
Rafael Aguiar, who was in second place in the championship before Mirecourt, did not have his best weekend. Still fourth and third in the heats, he even had to settle for 15th place in the final. Two penalties (leaving the corridor and spoiler) knocked him out of the top 10. Moccia's lead in the championship is now the narrowest in all categories. Only 16 points separate him from second-placed Bühler and 22 from Aguiar.
