The opening race of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship 2019 will take place on March 31 at the kart track 7 Laghi near Castelletto di Branduzzo. For the fifth time in a row, the 1256-meter circuit near Parma will host the first race.
Five more events are scheduled during the season (see dates). There is one change compared to last year: Château Gaillard, 50 kilometers northeast of Lyon, replaces the race in Vesoul.
New class for equal opportunities
A total of five categories and no fewer than 88 registered riders are waiting in the starting blocks for the season opener in Italy. A new addition is the OK Junior Academy class for riders born between 2004 and 2007, who will compete in the same field as the previous OK Junior. The purpose of the Academy is to ensure the greatest possible equality of opportunity. This is guaranteed by standardized Rexon engines and carburetors.
The X30 Junior will no longer be held. The majority of the riders who took part there in 2018 will take part in the OK Junior this season.
Growth in the X30 Challenge Switzerland
The X30 Challenge Switzerland will again be the category with the most participants this season. With 25 registered riders, the class has even seen a slight increase compared to last year. In the absence of last year's champion Danny Buntschu, Savio Moccia is considered the hottest contender for the title.
It will also be exciting in KZ2, where the fast shift karts will meet. There, in addition to the reigning champion André Reinhard, Isabelle von Lerber, Quentin Voria, Samuel Weibel and Mike Müller are also to be reckoned with.
In the OC Senior category, Liechtenstein's Patrick Näscher, who won 17 of 18 races last year, is the man to beat.
From the Minis to the Juniors
Interesting races are also guaranteed in the two youngest categories. Elia Sperandio, as champion of the X30 Junior, has made the jump to the OK Junior. He will have to prove himself there against Mini champion Shannon Lugassy, among others. Ekatarina Lüscher also moves up from the Minis to the Juniors. The 12-year-old from Aarau won all three races at the season opener in Italy a year ago and finished the season in second place overall.
Almost only one-day events
In contrast to previous years, all training sessions and races are held on one day for cost reasons. Only the final in Lignières is officially run on two days.
