Kart-SM: Only Savio Moccia clearly on course for title
TITLE FIGHT STILL OPEN In Mirecourt, the changing conditions tipped the scales. Only one didn't let this put him off: Savio Moccia won all three rounds in the X30, as he did in 2019. Constantly changing weather conditions turned the third round of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship in Mirecourt, France, into a lottery at times. Only one guy didn't let it throw him off his game: Savio Moccia.
Only technology can still slow Moccia down
With three wins and the extra points for the fastest lap in the final, Savio Moccia has made it unmistakably clear to his opponents in the X30 Challenge Switzerland that he can only be caught at 7 Laghi on November 7/8 if technology throws a spanner in the works.
Moccia's remaining opponents in the battle for the 2020 crown are Yoshindo Baumgartner (second in the final heat) and Danny Buntschu (second in each of the preliminary heats). In all categories it will be very close at the season finale in one month.
Merger at the top of the Super Mini
In the youngest age group (8 to 12 years), the three fastest drivers also in Mirecourt have joined forces at the top. Tiziano Kuzhnini is still in the lead with 155 points. However, the 11-year-old from Lucerne had to accept a zero in the second run due to a jumped-out chain.
In the final, Kuzhnini moved up the pecking order again from starting position 6. However, Sergio Koch and teammate Matt Corbi, who celebrated his first win in the second heat ahead of the strong Chiara Bättig, are still close on his heels in the title fight.
Sperandio's first Formula 4 test
The situation in the OK Junior is no less exciting. Last year's champion Elia Sperandio has made up 19 points on the leader Ekaterina Lüscher with two wins.
In the second round, the St. Gallen native had to settle for second place because the throttle cable broke on the last lap. In the week before Mirecourt, the 14-year-old was allowed to take his seat in a Jenzer Motorsport Formula 4 car for the first time.
Lüscher struggled with the set-up in the heats. With a third and two fourth-place finishes, third-place Dario Cabanelas' gap to the 13-year-old grew to 36 points. Lyon Mathur closed to within 19 points with her first win in heat 2.
Still five title contenders in the OC Seniors
In the OC Seniors, the top 5 are just 33 points apart after three of four events. In the absence of the previous overall leader Patrick Näscher, Nathan Neuhaus should actually have made a big step towards the title after the performance in Wohlen.
But the Delsberg driver was sidelined in each of the heats after collisions. In the final, he worked his way up from P12, but a 5-second penalty for an irregular spoiler attachment ultimately dropped him back to second place.
Victory thus went to Alessio Fagone, who had already attracted attention with second place in the first preliminary race. Neuhaus now leads the standings with 133 points, just four points ahead of Fagone and 14 ahead of Mattia Banella.
Rohrbasser, Reinhard or Bellanca?
There were only five drivers in the KZ2 field. But that did nothing to dampen the racing or the excitement. After André Reinhard had his nose in front in the first heat, it was overall leader Nicolas Rohrbasser who came out on top in the second heat.
In the final Rohrbasser would have liked to extend his lead, but this time Marco Bellanca had something against it. The Ticino native with showed a strong performance in wet and cold conditions and drove away from the competition by almost half a minute!
Rohrbasser, who leads the championship by 20 points from Reinhard and 25 from Bellanca, was not entirely satisfied with his performance in Mirecourt. He said he took off like a rookie in the first run and in the final, with rain setting in, the tire pressure was far too low. Reinhard complained about the same thing in runs 2 and 3, and he also made a mistake in his tire choice for the final.
