A victory in the final round of the German Electric Kart Championship at the Circuito Internazionale di Napoli was a must - and the 16-year-old from Winterthur did not miss this opportunity. After a cautious start to the season, the rookie from Switzerland got better and better in the pioneering Rotax e-kart Thunder.
Everything according to plan
The crowning glory of his impressive race to catch up came at the Rotax Max World Final in Sarno. With a start-to-finish victory, the Swiss rider ousted the German Luka Wlömer, who had been leading since the season opener in Wackersdorf, from the top spot by four points.
Jasin Ferati: "I knew before the last race that, regardless of Wlömer's performance, I needed to win in order to become champion. The start was therefore the most important thing. I had to be in the lead after the first corner to be able to control the race, and that's how it turned out. Bradley Barrett drove alongside me several times, but he couldn't get past."
Reward
Ferati crossed the finish line 0.391 seconds ahead of the Briton, who was two years older and had won the race the day before. Things got really emotional at the finish line. Tears of joy were unavoidable.
Jasin Ferati: "I've had to wait far too long for success like this. But now I know that the enormous effort was worth it and that I can achieve much more."
Proud champion
The new champion does not forget that this would not have been possible without his environment and a mechanic like Riccardo Negro.
Jasin Ferati: "This title means a lot to me. Although the gap was huge at the halfway point of the season, after the unexpected quadruple victory in Genk, everyone around me believed that I could still do it. It fills me with pride and satisfaction that I actually succeeded despite the ever-increasing pressure."
