Kart: Isabelle defeats the new champion
SM-FINALE LIGNIÈRES At the last kart races in Lignières, four championship titles were still awarded. In the top class KZ2, Isabelle von Lerber from Bern celebrated an impressive victory over the new champion André Reinhard. Championship leader André Reinhard could not afford a retirement at the 2018 autobau Swiss Kart Championship finale in Lignières if he wanted to secure his third KZ2 title after 2012 and 2013.
The man from Zeeland did not show any signs of weakness on the TCS circuit below the Chasseral and was always in the top 3 in practice and in the heats.
His opponent Hicham Mazou, who was 28 points behind, on the other hand showed nerves and only moved in the midfield. After a carom in the last round of the second heat the decision was made, Mazou could not catch Reinhard anymore.
Isabelle dashes forward
The best show in front of a gratifyingly large crowd was put on by the experienced Isabelle von Lerber. Although only eleventh in qualifying, the experienced racing lady worked her way to the front in the heats and won the final by a razor-thin margin ahead of Reinhard.
Isabelle von Lerber: "Everything was just right today. I had a super start and my technician Germano Marrocco had prepared a real bullet for me. I was able to overtake Reinhard on the first lap when the tires were still cold. We touched slightly, but this attack was not unfair."
The performance of guest star Dominique Aegerter was also impressive. The Moto2 World Championship rider became faster and faster over the course of the weekend and in the end finished in a strong tenth place.
Patrick Näscher also dominates the final
In the OC Senior, Patrick Näscher, who had already been crowned champion, continued his dominance. Julien Apothéloz, who will contest his first touring car race next weekend at Hockenheim as the third finalist in the Young Driver Challenge, finished second three times.
The Liechtenstein racer's season record is impressive: He only conceded the second preliminary race at the season opener in Italy to Pascal Von Allmen, otherwise he won all his races (a total of 17 at six events)! Due to his training as a civil engineer, Näscher will take a break in 2019.
The last duel for the runner-up title was very close. Despite health problems (severe stomach pain), this went to Von Allmen after a fifth and sixth place in the heats.
Miklas Born and he both collected 239 points each, but the overall better top finishes were in Von Allmen's favor.
Buntschu leaves no chance to the pursuers
Only 14 points separated Danny Buntschu, Alain Baeriswyl and Savio Moccia in the Iame X30 Challenge before the final. Nothing came of the big spectacle, because Buntschu was untouchable throughout the weekend.
Danny Buntschu: "Pole position was crucial because overtaking an equal opponent is very difficult on this track. I got away well on all starts, and while there was fierce fighting behind me, I was able to pull away a bit each time."
The runner-up title was secured just as clearly by Moccia, because Baeriswyl, who had travelled to Lignières as the leader, experienced a pitch-black weekend with caroms (1st run and final) and a time penalty (2nd run).
In the X30 Juniors, four drivers were even still in contention for the title. Eron Rexhepi, Samir Ben and Michael Sauter were powerless against the absolutely flawless Elia Sperandio.
Sperandio got the maximum of 75 points and could be celebrated as the new champion like a year ago in the Super Mini. The places of honor in the SM go to Ben and Rexhepi.
Second championship title for Elia Sperandio
In the youngest category, Shannon Lugassy had a reasonably reassuring lead of 26 points over Ekaterina Lüscher. Nevertheless, he could not afford a failure.
An important step had already been taken with the pole position. In the three races, Lugassy had to bow to Sebastian Kraft each time, but with three second places, he had the title easily in the bag.
Ekaterina Lüscher secured the second SM rank with three third places.
