Jubilation Weekend: The Swiss clean up 🎥

IN THE RUSH OF VICTORY What an automotive sports weekend for Swiss teams and drivers! In Zandvoort, Emil Frey Racing won two races each, as did Grégoire Saucy, and in Mexico, Edoardo Mortara celebrated a victory in Formula E. This is what a winning team looks like. In the middle with a raised fist Ricardo Feller. Emil Frey Racing needs a lot of space for the trophies at Zandvoort.

In Zandvoort, Emil Frey Racing experienced its best weekend so far since the Safenwil-based company joined the GT World Challenge Europe as a partner team of Lamborghini Corse.

Outstanding Ricardo Feller
On Saturday, Ricardo Feller and Alex Fontana decided the first sprint race on the dune circuit in the Netherlands in their favor after the outstanding Aargauer had set a fantastic qualifying time.

The Ticino native with Greek roots only had to bring the Huracán GT3 Evo safely to the finish line in the second half hour after the optimal preliminary work of starting driver Feller. As the once again winning team in the Silver Cup classification, they thus beat all the Pro and Pro-Am teams.

Almost a triple victory
On Sunday, however, Fontana missed the optimal timing for a fast lap on a dry track. Starting from the midfield (16th), he did everything right in the race, as did the final runner Feller.

The Swiss duo also benefited from a number of incidents involving those in front of them to finish as the silver-winning team once again and second overall behind their teammates to take two more podiums.

The Lambo #14 of Feller/Fontana was the fastest GT car at the Zandvoort weekend.

Their sensational performance on Sunday was outshone only by Norbert Siedler and Albert Costa. After being unlucky and retiring the day before, the Austrian and the Spaniard triumphed in the second sprint also thanks to an excellent pit stop strategy. Jack Aitken and Konsta Lappalainen brought the third Lambo home in fourth place.

If all the points collected counted towards the championship, Emil Frey Racing would have taken over the top spot in the overall team standings. With 16.5 points each for its winning team, the Safenwil-based company continues to occupy third intermediate place.

In the drivers' standings, the Belgians Weerts/Vanthoor, who finished third on Sunday, lead ahead of Feller and Fontana, while in the Silver Cup Fontana is ahead of Feller.

Grégoire Saucy is ready for the championship title. Anything else would be a disappointment.

Dominating Gregoire Saucy
Grégoire Saucy performed equally convincingly at Zandvoort. The Jura native, who started twice from pole position, decided both Formula Alpine races in his favor.

In six of the ten races of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, as the Renault/Alpine junior series is officially called, Saucy has already finished on top and thus leads the series by a large margin.

First Porsche victory disallowed
The man of the weekend in Formula E in Mexico was Pascal Wehrlein in the TAG Heuer Porsche electric race car. Due to an overly harsh penalty for a formal error in specifying the tires, he was stripped of his superior victory on Saturday immediately after crossing the finish line.

Audi celebrated the one-two with Lucas di Grassi and René Rast, and Edoardo Mortara moved up from fourth to third place. Late on Sunday evening Swiss time, the Geneva native then showed that he does not need outside help to make it onto the podium.

Mortara wins and takes the lead in the standings
In the Mercedes-powered Venturi, Edo won from third on the grid after overtaking first Wehrlein and then, with clever use of Attack Mode, the leader Oliver Rowland in the Nissan.

Mortara was in front for 27 of 32 laps in the ninth round of the year and spoke afterwards of the best race weekend of his long career so far. With the 40 points from the two races, the Frenchman takes over the top spot in the Formula E World Championship standings.

On the other hand, nothing is going right for Sébastien Buemi. On Saturday, both Nissan drivers were disqualified for a technical infringement. On Sunday, the Vaudois again finished 14th without scoring any points and thus far behind his British teammate (3rd).

Swiss anthem in the DTM Trophy
Nico Müller, meanwhile, gave preference to the DTM in Monza, where he scored a podium, as reported separately. In this setting, Michael Schrey celebrated victory in the BMW M4 GT4 of the Swiss-flagged Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport team.

As the previous day's fourth-placed driver, the German thus took over second place in the standings. With the same car owned by Hofor boss Martin Kroll and Italian racing partner Gabriele Piana, Schrey is also unbeaten so far in the 2021 ADAC GT4 Germany.

Yann Zimmer made a good debut in the DTM Trophy with two sixth-place finishes in another BMW M4, whereas Lucas Mauron in the Audi R8 came away empty-handed in both races after a lot of bad luck including a wrong decision by race control.
