The teaser, shot at the spring test in Bahrain shortly before the worldwide lockdown, introduces the ten teams and their drivers.

Following Fabio Scherer's move to the DTM, there will no longer be a Swiss driver involved in 2020, but there will be a renowned team that has been involved in GP3 since the early days in 2010.

With Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda, Jenzer Motorsport once entered the winners' list of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship launched as a GP3 successor series in 2019. This year, the Red Bull-sponsored junior is already racing in Formula 2, and last year's Jenzer teammates have also changed the scene.

One Australian and two Italians
The 2020 Jenzer trio consists of the two Italians Federico Malvestiti and Matteo Nannini as well as the Australian Calan Williams. Williams, who has just turned 20, won the Australian Formula 3 Championship in 2017 in his first racing season and then raced to good classifications in the Euroformula Open F3 in 2018 and 2019.

A lot can be expected from Calan Williams. But the West Australian also has to learn first (Photos: Carl Bingham / LAT Images / FIA F3 Championship).

Hailing from the racing city of Monza, Malvestiti, who is the same age, already completed his basic training in motorsport at Jenzer Motorsportin Italian Formula 4 in 2017 and 2018. Last year he raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup, where he finished third on the podium at Spa.

A trial race at Silverstone and the official FIA Formula 3 test days with Jenzer last fall solidified his decision to return to the team from Lyss and compete in Formula 3 in 2020.

Junior with known name
Soon to be 17-year-old Matteo Nannini is the nephew of former GP and DTM driver Alessandro Nannini. After many successes in karting, he switched to four big wheels in 2019 and won the international Formula 4 championship in the United Arab Emirates with seven victories.

After several races in the Formula Renault European Cup and in the Formula Regional European Championship with appealing results, Nannini jr. wants to prove his talent at the wheel of the 380 hp Dallara race cars.

Matteo Nannini is already moving to FIA Formula 3 after just one season in motor racing. Whether the move is not too big remains to be seen.

Tough stand in the 30-strong field of drivers
Considering the fact that he now has three rookies driving for him, the team boss is keeping his expectations low.

Andreas Jenzer: "Of the 30 drivers, more than half are contesting their second or third season with these cars. I think we'll be able to finish in the points from mid-season on. Sometimes it's better to have hungry rookies in the team instead of people who think they can win. Team-wise, we're in a good place, we've got everything under control."

Better this way than nothing at all
Like all races on GP weekends, those in Formula 3 are held without spectators. The personnel effort is also limited.

To avoid infection with Covid-19, strict safety requirements must be met, and contact with the outside world is virtually impossible again until after the first three consecutive race weekends.

However, the team boss can live with this, as it is better than nothing at all.

Andreas Jenzer: "The new calendar is right up our alley, with the last two Formula 1 race weekends in December in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi still likely to be added for us. Of course, so many races spread over a few months means a lot of work, especially as we are also involved in Formula 4 Italia. However, the important thing is that we can race again at all."

Like all motorsport enthusiasts, Andreas Jenzer is glad that things are finally getting underway on the race track. He won't be at home in Lyss for the next few weeks (Photo: Peter Wyss).

Regulations as before
Each weekend will feature a 45-minute free practice session, a half-hour qualifying session and two races of at least 40 minutes each. Points are awarded after both races for the top ten, with more points up for grabs for the top eight in the first race than in the second.

The starting grid for Sunday's race 2 will be in reverse order of Saturday's top ten. For rookies like those from Jenzer Motorsport, this is the best chance to put themselves in the limelight. Whether they take advantage of it will be seen soon.

The three Jenzer-Dallara cars are ready for the first races, which should have taken place in Bahrain on March 21/22. For safety reasons, however, they are no longer allowed to work as close together as they did during the tests.
