Jenzer: A Formula 3 in Red Bull colors
REWARD After 14 years, Jenzer Motorsport will once again have a racing car in the colors of Red Bull in 2019. The team from Bern will be entrusted with Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda in Formula 3. You could sense it during the test drives following the last GP3 races in Abu Dhabi. But Andreas Jenzer was not allowed to talk about it (officially). One of his Dallara GP3 cars ran in the familiar Red Bull colors. At the wheel was the Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda.
It has been official since this week: Red Bull has entrusted this promising junior from the Honda development program to the Swiss team. The last time this happened was in 2005 in Formula Renault.
Never experienced before
Red Bull Racing will drive with Honda Power in Formula 1 from 2019. Yuki Tsunoda comes from Japanese Formula 4, where he was considered the Honda Formula Dream Project Driver. In 2018, he drove everything into the ground. Accordingly, Red Bull's talent scouts think a lot of him, as does Andreas Jenzer.
Andreas Jenzer: "In 25 years, I have never experienced such talent. Yuki was immediately in the top ten in all but one session without having to fit qualifying tires. He was even second fastest on the last day. He sits in, just drives off and already knows exactly what he wants."
In order to stay in practice, Tsunoda will race for the German team Motopark in the European Formula Master as part of the DTM on the remaining weekends. Here, the previous Formula 3 racing cars with two-liter naturally aspirated engines will be used.
For Jenzer, the return of Red Bull as a sponsor is a vote of confidence and recognition.
Andreas Jenzer: "Being considered as a team for the 2019 Formula 3 European Championship and having Red Bull back as a sponsor is the biggest success for us this year. Our years of hard and serious work in GP3 and Formula 4 are clearly paying off."
All races at eight European Grands Prix
It has not yet been decided who will sit in the second and third Dallara F319 from Jenzer Motorsport. Jenzer is still negotiating with six candidates and will only announce the names once the contracts have been signed.
The new FIA Formula 3 European Championship replaces the previous GP3 series. All eight double races will be held as part of European Formula 1 races. Only in Monaco and Hockenheim will Formula 3 not be on the grid.
