Jaguar: Rome brings due Formula E victory 🎥

MORE DEVELOPMENT THAN IN FORMULA 1 Seventh race, seventh winner: Mitch Evans secured Jaguar Racing's first victory in Rome. Sébastien Buemi is still waiting for his first podium with Nissan. Pole setter André Lotterer leads after the start in the golden DS Techeetah ahead of Mitch Evans in the Jaguar I-Type 3. The German lost the duel against the New Zealander.

This victory was due. On June 10, 2018, Mitch Evans was on pole position with his Jaguar in Zurich. But it wasn't until last Saturday that the British team was able to reap the rewards of its efforts, with the New Zealander crossing the finish line in Rome as the winner for the first time.

More variety than in Formula 1
While Lewis Hamilton drove to victory in the 1000th Grand Prix in Formula 1 history in China the other day and Mercedes celebrated its third double victory in a row, the Formula E race in Rome already brought the seventh winner in the seventh race of the season. Jaguar also joins another manufacturer in the list of race winners in Formula E.

A team in ecstasy: Jaguar Racing finally achieved its first Formula E victory with Mitch Evans (Photos: FIA Formula E).

Evans' successful hunt for Lotterer
For a long time it looked like André Lotterer might win the race for the first time. However, Evans had the slightly better strategy with the use of Attack Mode and also generally the slightly higher speed than the German in the DS Techeetah. And so the protégé of former GP driver Mark Webber boxed his way past Lotterer on the eleventh lap. Third place for Stoffel Vandoorne, who was still driving for McLaren in Formula 1 in 2018, meant the first podium for the German team HWA RACELAB, which is close to Mercedes.

The highlights from the E-Prix in Rome, which was interrupted due to a mass collision, are shown in the following video:

Crowd at the top of the table
While Lotterer's teammate and defending champion Jean-Eric Vergne, the most recent winner in China, came away empty-handed in 14th, Jérôme d'Ambrosio (Mahindra Racing) took over the top spot in the standings from ninth-placed BMW driver Felix da Costa with his eighth place. The top eight are separated by just eleven points!

Edoardo Mortara, who stayed in the top ten for a long time, retired probably as a result of a collision with drive damage and slipped to ninth in the championship, just 13 points behind the leading Belgian.

Seven races, seven winners - when will Sébastien Buemi join the list?

When is Nissan's turn?
Sébastien Buemi made it into Superpole qualifying in his Nissan. Unfortunately, he had to be the first to take to the drying track in the shootout, so he only qualified for fifth place on the grid. At times in fourth place, the Vaudois brought home fifth place in the slipstream of Robin Frjins and ahead of his teammate Oliver Rowland. Buemi also claimed the additional point for the fastest race lap.

So the speed would be there, which gives him confidence for the home race of the entry team (Nissan e.dams) on April 27 in Paris.

Sébastien Buemi: "If it hadn't been for the bad luck with the weather in Superpole qualifying, my first podium with Nissan would have been possible. It would be nice if we could continue the series of different winners in Paris. In Rome we weren't quite as fast as last time in Sanya, but because Paris is more similar to Rome in terms of track characteristics with quite a few fast sections, we should look better in France. We keep fighting, our success is just a matter of time."

What was going on around the Nissan team in Rome is shown in the following short video:
