It is part of the IG Interswiss tradition that the overall winner is presented with a special painting by German artist Karsten Schade at the end of the season. This year, Schade was allowed to portray Rolf Burri from Lucerne and his red Opel Kadett.
Master with proven car
Thanks to his regularly good results in all races that were part of the IS Trophy 2018, Burri was the first driver with a two-valve engine under the hood to win this private championship for special car drivers.
Burri's Opel Kadett C GT/E has completed its 25th racing season. Once the car belonged to the former Swiss champion (on Opel Commodore) Martin Schenk, then Roman Marty.
For the 45-year-old manager of the V-Zug AG operating garage in Hünenberg, it is the first title win in his career.
Rolf Burri: "Everything played into my cards this year. The fact that I missed a goal in Bière and thus gave away victory still annoys me today. On the other hand, I managed to finish Reitnau under one minute for the first time. In Les Rangiers, I inherited the class win due to Urs Banz's engine failure, but the victories in the Chamblon and Drognens slaloms gave me a lot of pleasure."
Prize for diligence
For the Ruswil native, the diligent participation also paid off. As the only rider besides Philipp Niederbeger, he had to have one strike result deducted, as only ten results out of twelve made it into the classification.
Runner-up with nine contested races is Christoph Mattmüller on VW Scirocco. Because slaloms are not his thing, the man from Berne only competed in Frauenfeld in the spring and between the gates in Drognens at the end of the season. One more start in Bure, Bière or Chamblon or one less defeat in the IS-1600 against Stephan Burri (VW Polo), who finished fourth in the end, would have won him the title.
Third is mountain champion Frédéric Neff in the Porsche GT3 R. Neff has no defeats in Group IS, but concentrated entirely on the hillclimbs except for the start at the Bière slalom.

Premiums for all
A total of 48 drivers will make it to the final standings this year. Among them are three women: Vanessa Zenklusen (eleventh on Subaru Impreza), Corinne Pflug (26th on Toyota Corolla) and Lis Buser (45th on Opel Kadett). In no other category is the quota of women as high...
None of those present at the closing ceremony in Malters, where IG president Seppi Koch is at home, had to go home empty-handed. Thanks to the sponsors Autofit, Horag Hotz Racing and KW automotive (Switzerland), a bonus or entry fee refund of 40 Swiss francs per race can be presented to each and every classified participant.
The absentees will receive their prize money at the next race start. In total, more than 11000 francs will be distributed. In addition, there were prizes in kind and raffle prizes, donated by the sponsors. There is not so much to win even at the Swiss Championships...
