Head of Sport Andrea Adamo and Head of Marketing/PR Stefan Henrich talk about Hyundai Motorsport's 2021 commitment and provide insights into their team's work.

The technology transfer takes place on both sides. While production models serve as the basis in both the WRC (World Rally Championship) and TCR, Hyundai uses motorsport as the most demanding test bench for testing new technologies.

Know-how and experience from racing have a direct impact on the N brand's production models. For example, the rally car, the i20 WRC, influenced the development of the standard All-New i20 N.

New rally model for customer teams
Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing recently unveiled the i20 N Rally2 - a completely new rally car for private teams, comparable to the previous R5 model. Another example of Hyundai Motorsport's close collaboration with the Hyundai N development team can be seen in the chassis of the i20 N Rally2, which is based on that of the All-New i20 N.

The dynamic look of the i20 N also forms the reference for the i20 N Rally2. Both also share the new 'Sensuous Sportiness' design line.

Closer relatives than you might think: the Hyundai i20 N for everyday use and the new rally car for private drivers.

First all-electric high-performance vehicle from Hyundai
In the run-up to the new PURE ETCR championship, Hyundai engineers at the company's motorsport headquarters in Alzenau (D) developed the company's first fully electric-powered race car. As with the i30 N TCR and i20 N Rally2, the Veloster N ETCR was created as a greatly enhanced version of the production model. The Hyundai Veloster N available in North America served as the basis.

The test phase of the Veloster N ETCR began in September 2019 with a prototype, which the 2020 team continued to develop. The new electric race car runs without emissions, with rear-wheel drive, mid-mounted e-motors, built according to ECTR regulations.

Up to 500 kW strong
The chassis with the 798-volt battery pack installed in the vehicle floor (from Williams Advanced Engineering) and the rear suspension with double wishbones are fundamentally different from all previous Hyundai Motorsport projects.

Four electric motors - two per rear wheel - and a direct transmission provide the drive for the Veloster N ETCR. The permanent power output is 300 kW, reaching up to 500 kW (equivalent to 680 hp) at power peaks.

New target groups
Electric racing will become one of the key disciplines at Hyundai Motorsport in the future. ETCR will demonstrate how future-oriented technologies can be combined with more environmentally friendly motorsport.

This electrification also offers itself as a way to reach new target groups. By developing a zero-emission vehicle such as the Veloster N ETCR, Hyundai can showcase its capacity and capabilities in the high-performance electric vehicle segment and demonstrate that environmentally friendly mobility and driving pleasure can be combined.
