AF Racing AG and HWA AG are planning to establish a joint venture. Both companies aim to act as equal partners in this joint venture, which will be based in Germany.
AF Racing AG is a company based in Niederwil SG and active in various GT series with the R-Motosport racing team. Behind the letters AF are the first letters of the first names of the two owners Dr. Andreas Bänziger and Dr. Florian Kamelger.
They are two racing-enthusiastic doctors who make their money in medical technology and now also in the automotive industry. Bänziger is from St. Gallen, Kamelger is a South Tyrolean who has been living in Switzerland for a long time and is about to become a naturalized citizen.
Successful participation in the Blancpain GT Series
This weekend, R-Motorsport will enter two Aston Martin Vantage GT3s in the Spa 24 Hours. In only its second outing in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup, the Swiss team already celebrated a triumph in May.
R-Motorsport is also the motorsport division of Aston Martin St. Gallen, the only exclusive Aston Martin dealer in Switzerland and a company affiliated with AF Racing AG.
AF Racing is a strategic partner in the Aston Martin Valkyrie hyper sports car project, which is being developed jointly with Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. and Red Bull Technologies. In addition, this company operates with its sister brand R-Reforged in the field of vehicle refinement and the corresponding small-series production.

The strengths are bundled
The aim of the joint venture is to develop a strategic innovation partnership for development projects in automotive sports and in the automotive sector in general. The strengths of AF Racing AG and HWA AG are to be bundled in a new company to be founded.
The Swiss have excellent access to the addressed market in racing and customers. The Germans are specialized in the development and production of racing cars and small series as well as in the associated support and after sales. Target market are benchmark products in motorsport and small series.
Dr. Andreas Bänziger: "The world is changing and with it global motorsport. The establishment of this joint venture opens up completely new opportunities for the strategic further development of our company, both in racing and in the rest of the automotive sector. Our most important goal is to firmly establish ourselves in international automotive racing and, through success, to prove our innovative strength and competitiveness at the development and production levels for our various partners."

Everything is conceivable
HWA AG is still active in the DTM with its six Mercedes-AMG until the end of the season. Following Mercedes' withdrawal from the DTM, announced a year ago, HWA employees find a new role thanks to this strategic partnership with AF Racing.
Where it will lead can only be speculated at the moment. Bänziger and Kamelger seem to be open to anything. Expansion to Le Mans is just as conceivable as the long rumored entry into the DTM from 2020 with the Aston Martin brand.
Sauber Motorsport/Alfa Romeo Sauber F1, Emil Frey Racing, Jenzer Motorsport, Kessel Racing, Rebellion Racing, Fach Auto Tech and now AF Racing or R-Motorsport - Switzerland may not have its own racetrack, but it has more and more teams with high international ambitions and demands.
