With McLaren as a partner, Honda returned to Formula 1 for the 2015 season. A lack of performance and numerous engine failures led to the split. Honda promised progress - but McLaren has been driving with Renault engines since 2018.

Now Aston Martin Red Bull Racing is apparently convinced that the words of the Honda engineers are not just empty promises.

After twelve years, the Brits are parting ways with engine partner Renault and will rely on Honda Power in the future. According to the statement, the new cooperation is initially fixed for 2019 and 2020.

From 2019, it comes to the partnership between Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Honda.

57 GP victories and 8 world championship titles
With Renault, Red Bull Racing as a team and with driver Sebastian Vettel won four world championship titles in a row from 2010 to 2013. After that, Mercedes GP began its ongoing winning streak as world champion.

The team's 57th GP victory with Renault came with Daniel Ricciardo in Monaco at the end of May.

Since this season, sister team Toro Rosso has been running on Honda engines, whereas McLaren is now partnered with Renault. With two related teams, Honda, like Red Bull Racing, expects major development steps.

Team boss Christian Horner has clear ideas.

Christian Horner: "We've always made decisions like this in the past with only one ulterior motive, namely to take further steps forward. We can see that this is happening with the partnership between Toro Rosso and Honda. Together, we now have the goal of winning not only Grands Prix, but also the World Championship."

Renault, for its part, will focus on its own racing team from 2019 and strengthen its commitment as an engine partner to McLaren Racing.
