The trailer for the NitrOlympiX 2020 is now just to make you want to visit in the summer of next year.

Both special motorsport events are definitely cancelled this year. For the "Bosch Hockenheim Historic - The Jim Clark Revival" (original date: April 24 - 26) and the NitrOlympX (August 28 - 30), Hockenheim-Ring GmbH as the organizer made a long effort to find alternative dates in the fall.

However, in light of last week's new state conference decision announcing an extension of the ban on large events until at least Oct. 31, it will have to cancel both public events for 2020.

Planning uncertainty
Even though a current ordinance from the German state of Baden-Württemberg with precise wording of the ban on large events and the much-heralded exceptions is not yet available, there is no doubt that the cuts in the size and quality of both events would be severe.

An event like the NitrOlympiX for dragsters thrives on spectators. The atmosphere on the track and in the stands is unique.

As the experience of the last weeks shows, the short-term adjustments to the Corona situation and the corresponding necessary authority requirements make a concrete or even timely planning impossible for Hockenheim-Ring GmbH as organizer, but also for all teams and participants, who are also partly affected by strict travel regulations.

Ghost race unthinkable
From an economic point of view, audience restrictions or even a complete lack of audience mean lost revenue, which is urgently needed to run an event successfully and smoothly. The nevertheless high costs incurred make both the Bosch Hockenheim Historic and the NitrOlympX economically unsustainable this season.

This fact weighs all the more heavily in the crisis year 2020, which poses major financial challenges for Hockenheim-Ring GmbH. Both events live from the open paddock, their special flair, the lived proximity to the fan. Protective measures and restrictions would cause them to lose much of their special character and charm.

The Formula Junior race cars will not compete again until May 2021 at Hockenheim.

New dates for 2021
However, Hockenheim-Ring GmbH also has good news. Dates have already been found for both events in the coming season.

  • Bosch Hockenheim Historic: May 7 to 9, 2021
  • NitrOlympX: August 20 - 22, 2021

So, for the first time, the historic race event will not take place in April, but on the first weekend in May, long occupied by the DTM.
