For Theo Bertschi, this year's National Mountain Race on the Gurnigel would have meant his farewell performance as OC and club president anyway. Unfortunately, like all the races for the 2020 Swiss Automobile Mountain Championship, it could not be held due to general restrictions on sporting events.
Versatile functionary
For reasons of age and health, the 70-year-old Bernese had submitted his resignation at the last general meeting on March 10, 2020. For more than 40 years, Theo Bertschi had been active at the Gurnigel mountain race in various areas as an official, sports commissioner and most recently as OC president and marketing manager.
Together with his designated successor Kurt Ruchti, Bertschi wanted to remain co-chairman this year and continue to take care of marketing in the future.
Kurt Ruchti new president
Kurt Ruchti will now take over the presidency of the club alone until the next Annual General Meeting in spring 2021. Bertschi has handed over responsibility for marketing and sponsorship to the board.
The entire board and all members of the association Bergrennen Gurnigel thank Theo Bertschi for his many years of commitment to the preservation and good success of the popular major event in the Gantrisch region.
The 51st National Hill Climb Gurnigel is scheduled for September 11/12, 2021.
