Gurnigel 2020: Simracing instead of mountain racing
EVERYONE CAN JOIN THE RACE Anyone who has always wanted to start the Gurnigel race can now do so - simply in a virtual way. In October, the 1st Simracing mountain race on the Gurnigel will take place in the Businesspark Langenthal. This coming weekend, the Gantrisch region should have been all about motor racing. However, the drastic Corona measures have meant that the traditional mountain race on the Gurnigel cannot be held this year for the first time since 1968.
Virtual instead of real
The organizer is doing everything in its power to ensure that the popular Bern event can be held again on September 11/12, 2021, provided that the course of the pandemic will allow it.
Fans will not have to do without their favorite race this year either, but it will take place in a different form this year. Namely as the 1st Simracing Mountain Race on the Gurnigel, held on the weekend of October 24 and 25.
Car racing without license
Motorsport competitions are playing an increasingly important role in the booming eSports scene. Anyone who wants to drive around the Gurnigel track, which has been digitized in every detail, on professional simulators from the Racingfuel Academy - organizer of the Swiss Simracing Series - and compete with the cracks from the scene does not need a license.
Participation is also possible for all those who have always wanted to start at the Gurnigelrennen, but have never been able to do so for various reasons. All those who are at least 15 years old and 1.60 meters tall can register until September 25. The registration fee is 80 francs per day.
Attractive venue
The venue is the Businesspark in Langenthal, in the vicinity of which (Hotel Meilenstein) there is also a vehicle museum worth seeing. The centerpiece of this is the exhibition put together by Jo Vonlanthen on the subject of 70 years of Formula 1.
In addition to the race, participants and guests can move freely throughout the day in the Langenthal Business Park. So the visit is worthwhile in any case.
