GT Open: Two wins for Emil Frey Racing 🎥

STRONG RETURN Emil Frey Racing's racing debut with Lamborghini could not have gone much better. As in 2017 with Lexus, the Safenwil-based team won straight away - twice. Team boss Lorenz Frey was delighted with the opening victory on Saturday with his new young driver Giacomo Altoè (18) and spearhead Albert Costa.

Emil Frey Racing returned to the International GT Open with a stellar performance. Making its debut with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO, the Swiss privateer team secured victory in both races at the season opener at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet.

First one, then the other duo
The number #63 car of Albert Costa Balboa (E) and Giacomo Altoè (I) triumphed in the first race over 70 minutes on Saturday and finished the second race on Sunday in a good fourth place, despite the mandatory 15-second time penalty for the previous day's victory. This gives them the lead in the standings after the first race weekend.

The sister car of Norbert Siedler (A) and Mikael Grenier (CDN) experienced a rollercoaster ride of emotions. After the disappointing retirement due to an accident on Saturday's starting lap that was not their fault, the second Lambo duo from Safenwil took victory the other day.

Reminder of the start of the season 2017
Team boss Lorenz Frey was reminded of the season opener two years ago, when his team also won the first race with the Lexus RC F GT3 in the GT Open.

Lorenz Frey: "It's really incredible that we were able to take a win in the first race with Lamborghini. Especially since we saw in qualifying and already in the tests here beforehand that both McLaren and Mercedes are a lot faster. In the races it was therefore very difficult to overtake. Despite the two wins, we can still improve. The Lamborghini is still new to us, so we can be happy about how the two races went."

In an interview in English, Frey explains that of course it also takes the necessary luck:

Expectations exceeded
The Emil Frey Racing technician knows where the lever must now be applied to become even better.

Jürg Flach: "This weekend exceeded my expectations by far. An incredible result when I consider our short preparation phase. We did everything right under the circumstances. I'm proud of my team. But Mercedes and McLaren were stronger than us overall. We therefore have to continue working on the vehicle balance and the tires, and also on low-speed and high-speed performance."

On Sunday, the second Lambo from Safenwil drove to victory. Now the team is doing everything it can to continue leaving the competition behind.

Races 3 and 4 of the 2019 International GT Open will be held at the Hockenheimring on May 25/26.
