GP3: Jörg completes first test after winter break
After the shakedown at Magny-Cours (F) at the beginning of March, the first official GP3 tests followed at the Circuito do Estoril in Portugal from March 22 to 24. Over the three days, DAMS driver Kevin Jörg completed a total of 223 laps. "This was the first time driving properly again after the winter break. The new car was a lot of fun. [...]

"This was the first time driving properly again after the winter break. The new car was a lot of fun. Overall, the test went very well and I learned a lot. We made great progress," he explained. For Jörg, who comes from Formula Renault, many things are still new. So also the Pirelli tires. Three tire compounds are used in GP3: hard, medium and soft. In Estoril, Pirelli relied on the medium tire.
Jörg used the opportunity to gain further experience. "You have to adapt your driving style. The Pirellis need a lot of attention. On a long run, it's particularly important not to overstress the tires. With just one fast lap, it's essential to get the tires working. The optimum temperature window is very small and hitting it is very challenging," explained Jörg.
Compared to the test in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2015, Jörg sees the biggest progress in the set-up. "Here we practically started from scratch, as DAMS is new to GP3. The goal this season is to finish in the top five overall. To achieve this goal, we obviously need to improve a bit. This will be the goal at the upcoming test in Valencia," says the 20-year-old. The second test in Valencia, Spain, follows on April 7 and 8.
