Formula E: Now also with Nico Müller 🎥
RELEASE FROM AUDI Switzerland will be represented by another top driver in Formula E in the 2019/20 season. In addition to the DTM with Audi, Nico Müller will contest the electric championship with Dragon Racing from the USA. It was his wish to join Formula E as a regular driver. It was his wish to enter Formula E as a regular driver. The Bernese driver had previously been part of the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team as a test and reserve driver. However, there was no place for him there for the upcoming 2019/20 season, although the Swiss Audi driver would have been happy to stay for the sixth season. It was apparently too difficult for Hans-Jürgen Abt to put his foot down and keep his son Daniel in his team alongside Lucas di Grassi. Although there was a lot to be said for Nico Müller after best times in really serious Formula E test drives and in the simulator.
Müller like Jani once was
A solution has now been found, albeit not an ideal one. Müller finds shelter at Geox Dragon. The US team led by Jay Penske is one of the backbenchers. However, it is still good enough for drivers to learn the complex racing procedures. For this purpose, the 28-year-old driver from Bern was given the same clearance by Audi as Porsche gave Neel Jani two years ago. However, the Biel native left the team in a hurry after the first race in Hong Kong because he did not see a fruitful future. Audi and Müller obviously have other priorities. After a year of learning, they could come together in Formula E for 2020/21...
Dragon drives with drive technology from Penske Autosport, one of the many companies owned by Jay's father Roger Penske. With its Penske EV-4, Geox Dragon scored just 23 points in 2019, 20 of them with German Maximilian Günther, who will be driving for BMW next season. Champion DS Techeetah scored a total of 223 points.
Seventh DTM season with Audi
Nico Müller will continue to drive for Audi Sport in the DTM. The double program is possible without any compromises because there are no scheduling conflicts. Nico was able to find out how big the workload will be from his Abt team-mate Robin Frijns, who drove in Formula E with Audi customer team Envision Virgin Racing and finished fourth in the championship in Paris and New York. It will definitely be immense.
Buemi remains with Nissan
Brendon Hartley was announced as Geox Dragon's first driver some time ago. Like Sébastien Buemi, the New Zealander now also drives for Toyota Gazoo Racing in the World Endurance Championship.
Buemi himself was recently confirmed as a Nissan driver with Oliver Rowland. The following video of this announcement was recorded at this year's finale in New York in mid-July.
Four Swiss plus Simona de Silvestro
The sixth season of FIA Formula E will therefore see four Swiss professionals competing under the Swiss flag. The Italian-Swiss dual national Edoardo Mortara will continue to drive for Venturi, where Simona de Silvestro will help out as a simulator driver.
Buemi, Jani, Mortara and Müller - you don't have to be a fan of Formula E to love this confidence in Swiss racing drivers and watch the races on TV or live. The season starts on November 22/23 in Saudi Arabia.
