Two years ago, Sébastien Buemi won the Formula E Grand Prix on the shortened GP circuit in the Principality. On the return of the electric racing series to Monaco, the Vaud native once again dominated the action from A to Z in the Renault works car.
Buemi first set the fastest time in both practice sessions, then in his qualifying group and finally in the time trial of the fastest five drivers. Right from the start, the only Swiss driver in the high-caliber field remained in the lead, constantly pursued by the Brazilian Lucas di Grassi.
After the car change in the middle of the race, Buemi's long-term rival from the Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport team closed the gap threateningly close, but the Frenchman did not give him a chance to attack. As a result, the defending champion took his fourth victory in the fifth race, slightly extending his lead in the championship.
Sébastien Buemi therefore continues to lead the FIA Formula E Championship - which, despite being held worldwide, does not have an official world championship title - with Renault and at the same time the FIA World Endurance Championship, the long-distance world championship for sports cars, with Toyota.
The most important races of the season for Buemi and his two teams are now coming up in both series: the ePrix in Paris next Saturday and the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 17/18. There is no doubt that the most successful Swiss racing driver of the moment wants nothing more than these two victories.
